Risk Purchasing Group: The Florida Gastroenterologic Society Risk Purchsing Group (FGSRPG) has changed the Florida gastroenterologists options for purchasing their malpractice insurance. The formation of the FGSPG has sent shockwaves throughout the malpractice insurance industry, saving Florida gastroenterologists an estimated $4 million since it’s formation in September 2008. The FGSRPG is governed by an independent board composed of respresentatives from the Florida Gastroenterologic Society. The frequency of claims against Florida doctors is at a record low but malpractice insurers’ rates have not decreased at the same proportion. The insurers’ profits are high enough to offer deep discounts to a large group of doctors purchasing together. Through collective bargaining, FGSRPG members have already taken control of their malpractice insurance and have secured the benefits of buying power now, and for the individuals next crisis. There is no fee to join. If you become insured through the FGSRPG there will be a $100 adminstrative fee for risk management and claims review, but the goal is that this fee will be offset with the savings you experience.
